You will experience an incredible feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment upon the completion of your handmade whitewood selfbow. Our workshops are held at our 80 acre estate in Portersville, Pa. Water’s Edge is nestled in the Slippery Rock Gorge surrounded by McConnells Mill State Park.

About the event



The objective of this course is to teach the ancient craft of self bow building.

This workshop is taught with hands-on instruction and guidance at a beginner level.

Each student will build their own whitewood selfbow from stave to completion.


Detailed instruction of the entire self-bow build include

  • wood species and selection

  • splitting a log into stave form

  • stave drying process

  • reducing the stave to rough form

  • step by step tillering process 

  • string building demonstration 

  • incredible feeling of self fulfillment 

  • shooting instruction upon completion

  • completed selfbow hand-made by YOU!


Course highlights are as follows:

  • three 8-hour days of one-on-one instruction, one hour lunch

  • workshop hours are 8 to 5 each day with all lunches provided

  • snacks, beverages, and peaceful nature views provided

  • all tools, materials and detailed guidance provided
